When our family was ready to take in our next foster, we visited our local shelter Fresno Humane Animal Services. We passed by row after row of barking dogs, but we were stopped in our tracks by a silent dog who sat shaking in her kennel. She was very visibly pregnant, and it was clear that she was ready to give birth at any given moment. We knew in that moment that she needed our help the most, so we loaded her up and brought her back to the puppy palace. She settled in until she finally gave birth, which was a rollercoaster of emotions, but a beautiful experience nonetheless. She experienced several health scares while in our care: she was diagnosed with IVDD that made it nearly impossible for her to move without pain, and she later needed a few abscesses removed, which also caused her discomfort. It was not an easy ride for sweet Zia, but she trekked on like a true champion. A wonderful family took notice of her through our Instagram, as she reminded them of their dog Evelyn who had recently passed. Now Zia is adjusting to her new family and life, and she could not be more loved.
