Elmer was truly one of a kind. He was a staff favorite among the volunteers at our local shelter. A kind woman worked very hard to earn his trust when she saw him as a stray in order to bring him to safety. We instantly fell in love with his quirky personality and extra-long tongue that refused to stay in his mouth. After he came here, we started to realize just how extensive the trauma he went through was. He was missing almost all of his teeth (which explained the hanging tongue), and he was completely deaf. Even with his ailments, he was a truly special guy.
Elmer was adopted by his new mom, who drove all the way from Arizona to meet him. He now lives with her and two fur-siblings, who bring the "puppy" out of him every day! Since being adopted, we have gotten to see a side of him that we were never lucky enough to witness. He is truly happy to be home.
